A few gratuitous gross bug pictures

This is why I'm not a fan of stinkbugs. Fortunately, although we still find pockets of them (I pulled 44 out of the backpack I haven't used since I left State College this afternoon), they've almost all disappeared, and Shasta makes short work of any that she finds.

The trashcan in our house...

Our windows...

And just so you don't think Virginia is just totally disgusting, we do have some really cool bugs.
This one hangs out by our front door.

Invaders!

Our new house is great, but has a couple thousand teensy-tiny problems...namely Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (Halyomorpha halys). Basically think brown, mobile stink factories that swarm your house. But the pictures really say it a ll...

Our porch, under one of three mats that we laid down to trap the bugs before they got into the house...

The vacuum cleaner after I was done sucking them all up...it literally will never be the same again.

Score-Jim: 1 Dinner: 1

It's been a tie game for the past two days of "Jim cooks dinner without Steph's flavor input":

Day one was smoked tofu pad thai-definitely a win!

Day two was burgers with munster (fine) but I also attempted cole slaw with the giant Chinese cabbage we got with the veggie share...believe it or not, it looks WAAAAY better than it tastes...

Grossest Household mess...

I've cleaned up my fair share of gross household messes in my time (we've got a cat and a dog...nuff said), but I've got to say, I just discovered something that what it lacks in odor it makes up for in volume.

We've had a watermelon on our counter for the past week. I was saving it for a snack. Evidently it had other ideas and rotted out on the bottom where I couldn't see it. As their name suggests, there's a lot of liquid in a watermelon. And now that liquid is all over our counter, soaking into our bread, and getting stickier by the minute...guess I know what I'm doing for the rest of the night...
